What Is A Hardship License?
If your driver’s license is at risk or has been suspended (or has already been suspended) because of traffic violations, drunk driving convictions or for any other reason, you may qualify for a hardship license, also known as a Cinderella license. This type of driver’s license normally allows you to drive for 12 hours a day, not including late night hours. The allowable driving time may be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., or from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some drivers with jobs that start later have convinced judges to allow them to drive with schedules such as 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
An Attorney Can Help You Negotiate Effectively For A Work License
Negotiating your best options for overcoming the threat of a driver’s license suspension is a job for an experienced defense lawyer. I am David B. Zirlen, an experienced and well-established lawyer from Natick. I am a former prosecutor and a solo practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in private law practice. I am well-qualified and well-prepared to help you achieve the most favorable outcome as you seek a hardship license if this is the appropriate strategy in your case.
Melanie’s Law Information
In addition to helping drivers retain or recover their driving privileges by negotiating for hardship or Cinderella licenses, I also represent clients at risk of driver’s license suspensions under the provisions of Melanie’s Law. This is a law designed to crack down on repeat drunk drivers. The Massachusetts state legislature recently tightened up the requirements. First-time offenders used to lose driving privileges for 14 days. That has now been lengthened to 45 days for first offenses and two years for second offenses. Penalties escalate from there.
Simply put, multiple offenses result in increasingly harsher penalties. I represent clients before the Melanie’s Law appellate board in Marlborough and other communities regularly.
